Daryl F. Gates Police Quest: Open Season
Description
The fourth installment in the Police Quest series is titled "Open Season," and it can be found on Steam. It throws out the story arc from the previous three games and replaces it with a new one starring murder detective John Carey of the Los Angeles Police Department as the protagonist. The scenery also changes. Officer Bob Hickman, Carey's best friend and former partner, has been found dead in an alley in the southern section of the city. Carey discovered the body. A young boy by the name of Bobby Washington, who was only eight years old, was also killed. Carey launches an inquiry, which ultimately takes him deep into the criminal underworld of the city as well as on the trail of a psychotic killer.
In order to interact with the world, the game makes use of Sierra's classic icon-based interface, and the game's overall structure is modeled around an adventure. However, unlike the games in the previous installments in the series, this one places an increased emphasis on authentic police processes. A significant portion of the gameplay consists of investigating crime sites, interrogating suspects, and carrying out an investigation in accordance with standard procedures. There is a significant amount of leeway in the interaction, which enables the player to carry out activities that are unrelated to the primary narrative. Some of these activities, however, will result in the demise of the protagonist. Visually, the game is distinguished by its utilization of digital photorealistic pictures.
