Alone in the Dark 2
Description
One of the two central protagonists from the first Alone in the Dark, detective Edward Carnby, is your character in the sequel. After an old police coworker named Stryker accuses One Eyed Jack of abducting young Grace Saunders, Carnby is now asked to look into the matter. Stryker makes an attempt to sneak into Jack's run-down Hell's Kitchen mansion and rescue the girl, only to vanish himself. In this situation, Carnby is useful.
Carnby quickly discovers that Jack and his gangsters are actually pirates from the 15th century who became immortal after Jack allied with a Voodoo sorceress named Elizabeth Jarret. But in order to maintain their immortality, the black magic also forces Jack and his team to regularly provide human sacrifices (which explains Grace's captivity).
Now that the enchantment has been broken, Carnby must fight his way through Hell's Kitchen and Jack's army of criminals armed with Tommy guns in an effort to keep the dead from rising.
Similar to the first Alone in the Dark, Alone in the Dark 2 is an action-adventure game. The game features hybrid 2D-3D graphics like its predecessor. You must solve numerous riddles and battle zombie pirates in order to finish the game. With the variety of weaponry at your disposal, you can kill some adversaries while using cunning to defeat others.
The game also features a brief period (two sections in the CD-ROM edition) where you play as little Grace Saunders in addition to Edward Carnby. Since Grace can't fight, the scenes with her focus entirely on quick reactions and cunning to avoid and outwit the adversaries.
