Aftershock for Quake

Description

Aftershock is a commercial add-on for Quake that was developed by HeadGames Publishing, Inc. and published by GT Interactive. It is also known simply as Aftershock. The expansion was made available for purchase on November 10th, 1996.

In addition to the addition of user-created levels, this add-on features a.PAK file manager known as XPAK. This was done in an effort to promote a technique of modifying game files that is more secure. Included in this package is a beta version of THRED, a Quake map editor that was developed by Jim Lowell and John Mavor. Due to the fact that THRED was a pre-public beta release, support for it was not included on the Aftershock CD. This editor was HeadGame's ace in the hole and helped them obtain a competitive advantage over other game producers. Although widely marketed previous to the release of this commercial add-on, Mavor was compensated to withhold the editor's release in order to provide Aftershock for Quake with a competitive advantage in the form of a technological edge over other companies.

The primary text file for the game contains a variety of helpful hints pertaining to the game's numerous Weapons and Enemies. There is also a tiny section that is devoted to the most frequently used commands for the console. In addition to that, the text file is capable of compiling an exhaustive list of Secrets for the Base Game.
