Final Fantasy II

Description

With a proud army and a majestic air force known as the Red Wings, the military nation of Baron is one of the strongest in the land and is considered to be one of the strongest in the world. However, the most devoted of the king's subordinates are beginning to question the wisdom of their leader in light of his recent actions. Cecil, the captain of the Red Wings, has received orders to launch an assault on the city of Mysidia and seize the Water Crystal from the hands of the good wizards who guard it. After Cecil disobeys the king's orders, he is immediately exiled from the country and ordered to deliver a package to the village of Mist, accompanied by his best friend Kain, who is the captain of the dragoons. Kain is also a member of the dragoons. He has no idea that the seemingly irrational actions of the king are merely a piece of a much larger puzzle that he has not yet unveiled to anyone else.

Because the second and third games in the series had not been released in the West at the time, the fourth instalment in the Final Fantasy series was referred to as Final Fantasy II upon its initial release there. The game is a role-playing game (RPG) in the Japanese style, with top-down navigation of the world map, automatic levelling up, and random encounters with enemies.

A mechanic known as ATB is presented in the game (active-time battle). The game does not pause when the player accesses the battle menu, despite the fact that turn-based combat is the primary gameplay mechanic. The actions of the player-controlled party have no effect on the behaviour of the adversaries; they continue to act in real time. The participants' agility ratings are taken into account when determining their turns in the competition. Every character controlled by the player has a special bar that gradually refills itself, and the player only has control of that character once the bar is completely full.

In contrast to all of the other entries in the Final Fantasy series, the fourth instalment does not give the player the option to modify the abilities and classes of their characters. Every single one of the playable characters belongs to a particular, well-defined class, such as dragoon, white mage, black mage, summoner, ninja, etc. Each of these classes comes equipped with a unique set of special abilities or spells of magic. When a character reaches a certain level, they will automatically learn new abilities. These levels are predetermined. The events of the game's plot will determine which characters join or leave the party and when. The active party may consist of anywhere from two to five fighters.

The PlayStation version has a brand new introduction and conclusion that have been rendered.
