Description

Realms of the Haunting is a video game that combines first-person shooter gameplay with three-dimensional adventure gameplay, and it also includes a significant amount of live-action Full Motion Video. You move through the game world by using a first-person shooter interface that is quite similar to that of Doom. In addition, there is a free-floating cursor that is controlled by the mouse, and you may use it to interact with the many items that are surrounding you. In addition to that, there is an inventory system, as well as quite a few riddles that use objects. The game has traditional Doom-style action against a variety of monsters; however, the combat is spaced out throughout the game rather than being present the entire time. The primary focus of the game is on exploration and atmosphere rather than combat.

The narrative of the video game begins as a standard tale of a haunted house, but it quickly transforms into a fiction about the end of the world that incorporates both New Age pseudo-philosophy and biblical Revelations. You play the position of Adam Randall, the son of a pastor, who is tasked with investigating a haunted home on the orders of a mysterious priest who asserts that it is connected to the pastor's father's untimely passing. Once you enter the mansion, you quickly discover that not only is it infested with demons and evil spirits, but also that the mansion itself was built over an old Satanic temple, and that the priest who sent you there is actually a five-hundred year old French sorcerer attempting to bring about the end of the world. This information is revealed shortly after you enter the mansion. You will soon be assisted by a kind young psychic as well as the specter of a valiant warrior who died in battle. In addition to this, an ex-demon king will have a vendetta against you, and the Antichrist-in-training will follow you around and try to kill you.
