Championship Soccer '94

Description

Sensible Soccer: European Champions was the inspiration for the video game Championship Soccer '94, which was released in 1994. The gameplay is exactly the same: it's a top-down, fast-paced soccer game with an emphasis on quick passes and a straightforward control scheme.

Players have the option of selecting from 40 national teams, 64 club teams, or 64 custom (fantasy) teams, and they are able to create their own competitions (cups or leagues) using these teams. Both the number of teams that will be competing and certain aspects of the rules can be altered. The primary difference between this version and the previous one is the decreased number of pre-determined tournaments, which include the World Cup qualifiers and the new Maastricht Cup (which is a knockout tournament) for national teams, and the European Superleague and the EUFA Cup for club teams. Now, the only competitions available for custom teams are the Booby League and the Turkey Tournament. Athletes and competitions no longer use their original names; for example, UEFA has been replaced by EUFA. This is one of the most significant differences.

The increased storage capacity of the SEGA CD version is utilised to store additional sound as well as some rendered movies, such as a flight over a stadium prior to the start of a match.
