PGA TOUR 96 for Windows 95

Description

PGA Tour 96 was the most technologically advanced installment in the series, and it was also the final game to be released for Sega's 16-bit platform. Spyglass Hill, Sawgrass, and River Highlands are the only three courses that are currently available, and all of them are rendered in three dimensions, with height disparities clearly obvious (as well as the limited 3D abilities of the console allow).

The player has the option of playing as one of ten PGA pros whose swings have been digitized for the game, or going pro themselves. The game keeps track of statistics (longest drive, driving accuracy, best round, etc.), a game (Tournament, Strokeplay, Skins, Match, and Shootout), as well as a replay.

The gameplay of PGA 96 makes use of the tried-and-true triple click system. The first click starts the swing, the second click sets the strength, and the third click determines the accuracy. It is possible to pitch the ball, chip the ball, fade the ball, or draw the ball in order to change the trajectory of the ball (for some medium range attempts at the hole or go above a bush). The tolerance of the triple click hit zones is largely affected by the difficulty level. For example, although at the novice levels it is feasible to allow the accuracy be a touch off-center, in the pro levels the ball goes where your swing took it and no excuses are taken for inaccurate shots. However, because the amateur and novice levels take a few yards away from the overall capacity of the club, the only level in which it is feasible to make the longest drives is the Pro level.
