Kingpin: Life of Crime

Description

The Kingpin controls the entire town, making it impossible for the government to control the crime in the city. Nearly every criminal and nasty thug in the city either works for him directly or pays him protection money. Otherwise, they frequently pass away. One such thug refuses to give Nikki, one of the Kingpin's lieutenants, his protection money. The thug is left battered and injured in an alley as payment for his troubles. This thug, who has vowed retribution, will be responsible for finding Nikki and every other member of the Kingpin's organization and putting a violent end to their criminal careers.

In the first-person shooter Kingpin: Life of Crime, the player assumes the character of a gangster on a quest of vengeance. A number represents the player's health bar, and when it is empty, the player expires. Additionally, it is possible to collect armor that offers defense for the player's head, chest, or legs. Small lead pipes are used as weapons at first, but when picked up, various weapons such a pistol, shotgun, tommygun, flamethrower, grenade launcher, and rocket launcher become accessible.

Kingpin maintains track of a player's weapon skills such that their aim generally gets worse when they first get a weapon and gets better with use. While some of these weapons will be hidden in chambers, others will be offered for sale through the chain of Pawn-O-Matic pawn shops. Additionally, the pawn shop offers upgrades for specific weapons, health, armor, and ammunition. The player will need to communicate with a variety of NPCs in order to find the Kingpin, some of whom are looking to sell goods, some who have tasks to fulfill, and yet others who are merely available for hire. Only the player's answer or statement—either positive or negative—can be used to interact with NPCs. Money is needed for many interactions with NPCs and for purchases at the pawn shop. It can be obtained from defeated foes, or it can be found laying around apartments or locked safes.

The player can employ specific goons to follow them and engage adversaries with their own weaponry. They can be instructed to follow the player or remain stationary and have their own damage display that is comparable to the player's. Some thugs will also be adept at picking locks, allowing them to gain access to safes and locked doors.
