Mortal Kombat 3
Description
The victor is Shao Kahn. There is no longer an Earthrealm. Shao Kahn, the ruler of Outworld in Mortal Kombat 2, utilized the Outworld Tournament as a distraction so that his Shadow Priests could resurrect his deceased Queen Sindel on Earth. This allowed Shao Kahn to successfully bring back his queen. After it has been activated, the dimensional bridge between the two realms will connect, allowing Kahn's annihilation squads to attack and destroy Earth while also enslaving the souls of its inhabitants.
Mortal Kombat champion Liu Kang and his buddy Kung Lao, Special Forces operatives Sonya Blade and Jax, the shaman Nightwolf, the riot cop Stryker, the nomadic Kabal, and former Lin Kuei warrior Sub-Zero, who has gone renegade from his tribe, survive the onslaught. This small squad of Raiden's "Chosen Warriors" survives the invasion. Sheeva, a female Shokan, the sorcerer Shang Tsung, and Queen Sindel herself are the enemies of the warriors. They are joined by the mercenary Kano, the cyber-ninjas Smoke, Sektor, and Cyrax, and Sheeva.
New features have been added to the 2D fighting series with the release of Mortal Kombat 3, including multi-level playfields, "Dial-A-Combo" strikes, a "Run" button to speed up the battles, and "Vs." codes. These "Vs." codes allow players to unlock new powers and abilities if both players enter a code sequence in pre-match-up screens. Also featured are additional stage deaths and finishing maneuvers, which take place when each warrior attempts to face off against the Centaurian enforcer Motaro and Shao Kahn himself in a one-on-one match.
Mortal Kombat 3 is the last game in the series to include motion-captured digitized images for its kombatants. It is also the first game in the series to introduce online network play for the PC version.
