Alone in the Dark 3

Description

Detective Edward Carnby is prepared for another round of being Alone in the Dark after surviving two brushes with the paranormal in Derceto and Hell's Kitchen.

After surviving her ordeal in Derceto, Emily Hartwood—the second main character from the first game—began a career in Hollywood motion pictures, as revealed in the third game in the series. Her most recent endeavor is a spaghetti western that is now being shot in Slaughter Gultch, a deserted western ghost town that perches precariously on the verge of the San Andreas fault. Slaughter Gulch was originally a gold town created by a man by the name of Jebediah Stone and governed by his own personal army of cold-blooded killers. It was fairly crudely constructed on ancient Indian sacred land. The town was abandoned shortly after Stone and his men were slaughtered by incensed peasants led by the neighborhood blacksmith. Unfortunately, Emily's crew upsets Stone and his men's spirits, causing them to instantly resurrect and begin murdering the film crew one by one.

After learning of the disappearance of Emily and her crew, Carnby is summoned to Slaughter Gulch, where he is promptly greeted by Stone's Zombie Cowboy gang. Carnby must battle his way past Stone's goons while carrying different western accoutrements including bullwhips, gatling guns, and colt peacemakers. Along the way, he discovers some unexpected facts about Stone's background as well as a dark scheme Stone may now resume pursuing that was put on hold when he was killed and involved the annihilation of the west coast.

The two predecessors' gameplay is similar to this one: Carnby is navigated by the user through static 3D displays that frequently change camera angles. To solve puzzles, he gathers diverse objects and employs them. In addition to using objects, pressing a button also initiates one of the following four actions: jump (only at specific locations), open/examine, move (such as pushing), and battle. Due to the fact that many situations call for a violent response, the latter is a crucial gameplay component. The player can use melee attacks or various weapons (with scarce ammo resources). The player must manually aim, and they can adjust the difficulty by adjusting Carnby's and the enemy's life energy in three steps.
