Montezuma's Return

Description

Max Montezuma is a soldier who is also a descendent of a great Aztec emperor. His ancestor was known as Montezuma the Great. Max's plane eventually goes down on an unexplored and desolate island one day. Max finds some ancient ruins in that area, and he decides to investigate them in order to see if he can make any connections between the mysteries of the past and the happenings of the present.

The gameplay of Montezuma's Return, the sequel to Montezuma's Revenge, similarly focuses on platforming and features platforming elements such as solving puzzles, avoiding obstacles, and fighting monsters. This game, in contrast to its predecessor, is played from the first-person perspective in 3D. When the camera is moved, the player is able to see where the protagonist is placing their feet, which makes accurate platform jumping much easier.

There is a boss fight at the end of each level, and each boss has a unique strategy that must be used to defeat them. Max can punch and kick foes, and he can also use environmental hazards to injure them. Killing enemies requires either luring them into traps or shoving them into water, both of which he can do. In certain places, Max must traverse moving platforms, climb ropes, swim, avoid falling into lava or deadly spikes, and perform other challenging activities. In each of the levels, Max can search for hidden riches, which can be used to heal him, as well as unique artifacts that can be used to pass through locked doors.

The CD features the complete rendition of Montezuma's Revenge in its entirety.
