Inherent Evil: The Haunted Hotel
Description
Inherent Evil: The Haunted Hotel is a horror adventure game developed by DreamCatcher Interactive and released in 1999 for the Windows operating system. The game takes place in a cursed hotel, where the player takes on the role of a news reporter in an attempt to uncover the secrets of this haunted place.
The game begins in a very mysterious way when the main character, Ann Smith, arrives at the hotel and finds it closed off from the outside world. Through collecting important items and solving puzzles, Ann gradually works her way through the hotel, uncovering the light and dark sides of the hotel.
One of the most striking elements of the game is its dark atmosphere, thanks to the great visuals. Moving around the hotel is very realistic thanks to perfectly rendered textures and details. The invigorating sounds and music, along with the constant subconscious feeling of anxiety and fear, perfectly complement this horror atmosphere.
The game also presents some interesting puzzles that are very elaborate and require the player to think and logic. However, at times there were puzzles and impossible tasks to overcome, which could lead to frustration in the player.
In addition to the great visuals and atmosphere, Inherent Evil also has a very solid story, although some aspects of it could have been better explained. The characters are well written and their dialogue adds to the story's resolution.
One of the few negative points of this game is the fact that it is relatively short. Some players may have taken more than two days to complete it, but got the impression that it could have offered more content.
Overall, Inherent Evil: The Haunted Hotel is an impressive game that offers players a great horror experience. Great visuals, atmosphere and a solid story make it one of the best horror adventure games released for Windows in 1999. If you are a fan of horror games, you should definitely not miss this game.
