Holy Umbrella - Dondera no Mubou!!

Description

In Holy Umbrella, you take on the role of a Japanese schoolboy living in the present day. One day, the sky suddenly turns a dark blue colour, a heavy rain falls upon the city, and the boy finds an umbrella that seems to have fallen from the sky halfway between his house and the school where he goes. What he does not realise is that the umbrella possesses enchanted powers. As soon as he comes into contact with it, he is instantly transported to a different universe. He is immediately ambushed by a massive tank, but a strange old man who is accompanied by a talking bird is able to rescue him. It would appear that a malicious being known as Dondera is posing a threat to the nation with the horrific monsters that she spawned. But is that actually the case? You travel to the imperial capital, have a conversation with the emperor, and then make the decision to look into the matter...

Holy Umbrella is primarily a platform action game; however, in contrast to the vast majority of other games in this genre, it allows you to visit towns, where you control your hero in a top-down fashion similar to that used in standard role-playing games (RPGs). You are able to enter houses, engage in conversation with the locals, etc. You will need to switch between the hero, the talking bird Bonto who accompanies you on your quest, and the girl Saki who you will meet later on in the game in order to complete the platform levels, which are the primary component of the game. Every character possesses their own unique skills and methods of combat, such as the hero being able to glide through the air using the umbrella, Bonto being able to double-jump on high ledges, Saki being able to jump on walls, and so on. As a defensive measure, you make use of your umbrella, in addition to the elemental stones that you can pick up along the way and throw at your foes. You can also equip your hero with a variety of power-ups and items that you find throughout the game.
