AeroGauge
Description
When you say speed and adrenaline, many gamers think of racing games like Need for Speed or Burnout. But in 1997, a game came to market that offered even more - AeroGauge for the Nintendo 64.
In a world where racing games dominated on consoles, AeroGauge had to bring something unique to the table in order to compete. And it has to be said, it succeeded. Not only did the game offer fast racing, but also incredibly realistic graphics, which was absolutely revolutionary on the N64 at the time.
AeroGauge puts you behind the wheel of futuristic cars, in which you have to fight your way to the top of the speed limits on more than 10 different tracks. Each of these tracks is packed with challenges that include steep corners, jumps and even sharp tunnel turns.
One of the game's biggest draws is undoubtedly its graphics. When you first look at the captivating surroundings, you'll be directly fascinated by all the details, such as waterfalls, clouds or the reflections of the lights on the hood of your car. And when you take to the tracks, you'll find yourself in the middle of the bustling traffic that makes you feel like you're really at the epicentre of the race.
In addition to impressive graphics, the game also offers a wide variety of cars to choose from, each with their own special abilities. From the agile and fast Thunderfox to the cumbersome and powerful Bullhead, every player is sure to find their favourite car.
Occasionally, however, the game can become unnecessarily difficult. One reason for this can be outdated controls that can leave players at a loss, especially when taking sharp turns or avoiding other vehicles on the track.
The music in the game is passable, but unfortunately it soon becomes monotonous and more or less forgettable. Moreover, as with many games of this genre, the gameplay can become monotonous and sometimes even boring after a while.
All in all, AeroGauge for the Nintendo 64 was a game that dared to overcome the limits of its time, bringing something new and original to players. With its impressive graphics and journey to speed, the game was an integral part of many gamers' libraries. It's a straightforward, fast-paced racing game that lived up to its purpose and is certainly one of the best racing games on the N64 in this regard.
