Hexen: Beyond Heretic

Description

Hexen: Beyond Heretic is a 1995 computer game developed for the DOS operating system. This game is a sequel to the successful fantasy title Heretic and takes the player into a dark world full of magic and danger.

The game begins in the rebuilding of the region, when the hero Arktwend decides to fight against the powerful Crown Prince D'Sparil and his demonic henchmen. The player has the option to choose from three different characters - a warrior, a wizard or a clown, each with their own abilities and skills. This variety of characters sets Hexen apart from its predecessor and allows the player different approaches to the game.

When you first turn on the game, it's obvious that its creators have paid close attention to the graphics and environment. It's no surprise that the game incorporates elements from Doom, as its creators were members of the legendary game's development team. However, unlike Doom, Hexen is much more colourful and rich in detail. Each location has its own character and the atmosphere of a medieval fantasy world breathes on the player.

The game mechanics are very similar to Heretic. The player controls his character in a 1st person view and has to deal with various obstacles and enemies. One of the biggest differences from Heretic is the introduction of a new special magical power that gives the player a wide range of effective spells. These are collected by the player during the game and used to destroy enemies and gain access to the next levels of the game.

In terms of difficulty, Hexen may be more challenging for some players than Heretic. The first levels are relatively easy, allowing the player to learn the controls and gain the necessary experience, but later on the difficulty increases noticeably and requires careful planning and strategy.

The music and sound effects in Hexen are excellent. The dark and epic music fits the game's setting perfectly and adds to the atmosphere. The sounds of weapons and strikes are realistic and add to the sense of tension and adventure.

Overall, Hexen: Beyond Heretic is a great sequel to its predecessor. Beautiful graphics, rich detail, excellent music and rich game mechanics combine to create a great gaming experience. If you like first-person shooters, fantasy elements and are no stranger to a challenge, Hexen is definitely worth checking out.
