Destruction Derby 64

Description

Destruction Derby 64 is an action racing game developed for the Nintendo 64 console in 1999. It follows the successful Destruction Derby series, which became famous for its brutal races where the main goal is not to finish first, but rather to destroy as many opponents as possible.

Right after the game starts, there's an eye-pleasing intro with shots of a plunging machine and crowds of spectators chanting the names of your favourite drivers. This is followed by a choice of game modes - career, single race, championship or arena. Each offers a different experience and objective. In career, you can create your own riders and progress through both individual races and the entire season. The simple race is designed for fast and carefree riding without the need to complete tasks. In the championship, you can try to win several series of races, and in the arena you can show off your destructiveness and blast all your opponents.

The graphics of the game are of a high standard for its time. The detailed car models and their damage look great and the destruction effects are very impressive. The game offers several different tracks with differently shaped circuits and jumps. The well-crafted physics ensures that every car behaves realistically and a minor mistake can mean a fatal crash.

The audio aspect of Destruction Derby 64 is also of a high standard. The engine sounds of the cars are realistic, and you can hear the screeching of metal and the tearing of tyres when a car is destroyed. The background music is mostly rock music and fits perfectly into the heated atmosphere of the race.

Unfortunately, despite the great processing and gameplay, Destruction Derby 64 has its flaws. One of them is the handling of the cars. In the early races, you'll have to get used to slower reactions and more difficult cornering. Another problem is the inaccuracy of the camera view, which can be very frustrating during fast corners.

Overall, Destruction Derby 64 is a successful sequel to the popular racing game series. Great graphics, hilarious audio and an adrenaline-pumping racing atmosphere are its strong points. However, some of the control flaws can be frustrating for more demanding players. If you don't mind a lot of action and destructive racing, then Destruction Derby 64 will definitely make you happy.
