The Elder Scrolls: Chapter II - Daggerfall
Description
The Elder Scrolls: Chapter II - Daggerfall was a computer and console game developed for the DOS operating system in 1996. It was the second installment of the popular The Elder Scrolls series from developer Bethesda Softworks. Even then, the game was highly anticipated due to its previous success and the new story it promised.
The game takes place on the fantastic land of Tamriel, which is divided into different provinces. The player takes on the role of a hero who is tasked with completing various quests and gaining experience and wealth. The choice of professions is wide, you can become a warrior, a thief, a mage or a wizard. Each profession has its own specific gameplay and abilities, which brings great variability and replayability to the game.
Like most RPGs of the time, the game starts at the port, where the player has to go through an introductory explanation and get the first quest. After that, he can venture into the world, which is open and full of various tasks and challenges. The game uses a random task generation system, which ensures that in each pass the player will be offered something new.
The graphics of the game are very decent for its time, but nowadays it cannot compete with modern games. But as far as atmosphere is concerned, Daggerfall still holds up to a high standard. The player can meet different characters, trade with them, talk to them or fight them in a duel. The freedom the game offers is absolutely amazing. The player can choose which way to complete quests, and overall has a lot of influence over their character.
The audio aspect of the game is also of a decent standard, but I must admit that the music gets repetitive quickly and can be monotonous for some players. However, the environmental sounds are well done and contribute to a faithful representation of the world.
The combat system could be a little more refined, but still offers interesting fights that can be dynamic and exciting. The player can train his character, improve his abilities and acquire better equipment.
Overall, The Elder Scrolls: Chapter II - Daggerfall is a very good and expansive game that offers a great RPG experience. It's packed with content and has great replay potential. Despite being from 1996, it still deserves its place in the RPG Hall of Fame. If you are a fan of the Elder Scrolls series or RPGs in general, you definitely should not miss this game!
