King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow

Description

Prince Alexander of Daventry has been isolating himself from the rest of the world for several months now, with the only intention of thinking about Princess Cassima, whom he first encountered while he was locked up in the previous game. At some point, he reaches his breaking point and decides to embark on a journey to find the Land of the Green Isles, which is said to be situated on the edge of the planet. After several months of looking, he was eventually able to locate the island kingdom; but, just as the ship was about to arrive, it was unexpectedly destroyed by a sudden storm, and he was the only person to survive. However, he quickly learns that the King and Queen have both passed away, that the Green Isles are on the verge of war, and that his cherished Princess Cassima may even be held captive by the royal vizier. His problems are far from ended at this point.

King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow is a puzzle-solving adventure game played from the third-person perspective, just like its predecessors in the series. In order for Alexander to preserve the Isles, he will need to travel between the four mystical islands that make up the Land, each of which is based on a different tale or fable, and meet people and weird monsters that will either aid him or stand in his way. As is the case with all of the King's Quest games, Alexander needs to be extra cautious because making poor decisions or falling into dangerous traps can frequently end in the Prince's death. The solutions to the puzzles are presented in a sequential fashion; but, towards the end of the game, there are two entirely distinct routes to pursue in order to reach the climactic showdown. A point-and-click interface with icons that represent verbs is used to accomplish activities, just like the one used in the previous game ("walk", "examine", "use", "talk", etc.).

The Girl in the Tower theme tune is included in the game's CD-ROM version, which also features complete voice acting, a pre-rendered introduction, and both the DOS and Windows versions of the game.
