Silent Steel
Description
In Silent Steel, the player assumes the role of the captain of a nuclear submarine that is performing what appears to be an ordinary peace-time patrol. As external factors come into play, the Captain finds himself in the middle of a fight for his life to not only defend the ship, but to expose a devious conspiracy that has the potential to set off a catastrophic global battle.
The player is given the opportunity to engage with the game through the use of an Action/Dialog Interface, which appears anywhere from once every 15 to 30 seconds during the course of the adventure. The three options that are provided are, in point of fact, essential components of the script. The game requires the player to choose one of the available alternatives, which can be done by either using the numbers on the keyboard or by clicking on the number (or the line of dialog). The actions taken by the user up until the point where they reach the next Action/Dialog Interface box will define the path that the narrative will take. As the player progresses through the game, he will be faced with a variety of crises, each of which must be evaluated, prioritized, and resolved in the most effective manner possible. Depending on the choices he makes, the story could have a number of different conclusions, ranging from him dying to him surviving, as well as some amusing ones.
