King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella

Description

The return of the king and queen's children brought joy to King Graham and Queen Valanice. Graham is of the opinion that it is time for him to hand over his seasoned explorer's hat to them. After he throws it across the room, he has a heart attack and collapses on the ground. He needs to be brought to bed because he is in critical condition. Graham's health can only be restored if the magical fruit that can be found in the distant land of Tamir is retrieved. This is the only hope for Graham's recovery. Rosella is given the opportunity to travel to the land and find the fruit by a stunning fairy named Genesta, who promises to carry her there. Once she is transferred, however, there is no way to return her to her original location until she assists the fairy in retrieving her talisman, which was taken by the wicked witch Lolotte.

The first King's Quest game to include a female lead character is King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella, which was released in 2005. Rosella will have interactions with a variety of personalities who may either assist her or impede her progress. The player directs Rosella's actions by entering in specific commands and using the arrow keys to navigate her across the screen. This version of the King's Quest series utilizes the new SCI engine, which features more complex graphics. The most noticeable consequence is that the game pauses while the player is typing, providing endless time to finish even the longest instructions. However, an AGI version of the game was also made available to the public.

When it comes to the gameplay, the game is very similar to the first two entries in the series. There is a big, interconnected environment that can be explored at your own pace, and there is no set time restriction. This is the first game in the series to have a day and night cycle; certain actions can only be performed at various times of the day.
