Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon

Description

It is time to begin construction on a railroad now that you have $100,000 in the bank as a result of selling stocks and taking out loans. You can create your own railroad that transports people and goods across the country by selecting from one of four different scenarios spread over two continents and having resources generated at random. Make use of the revenue to continue expanding while ensuring that you maintain control of your firm and satisfy your stockholders with growth and revenue. Participate in the stock market using the assets of the organization. Buy out your competition or engage them in a rate war to force them out of business. Multiple kinds of resources to transport and convert (generally classified as slow freight, rapid freight, people, and mail), as well as one's own facilities, in order to generate the most profit possible (buy a steel mill and the conversion from iron ore to steel makes money for YOU). Make the most of the most up-to-date technology by using it to your advantage (new locomotives). Your goal is to retire with a substantial bonus (based on the assets of your company) and then either become the President of the United States or the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (depending on which continent).

The game is primarily a real-time strategy game played from an above perspective, and it also includes elements of stock market manipulation and construction. Each fiscal period lasts for two years, which is equivalent to one day in terms of track time. Construct stations of varying capacities to cater to the various local needs, and design trains with changing consists that can take advantage of the various station configurations to achieve maximum throughput. Trains should be updated, retired, or modified as the timetables change. The trains bring in more money for the company depending on how quickly they arrive. Because each game is unique, having multiple alternatives will keep you active and occupied.
